Service Awards Program
Points System Proposal
A year of service shall be credited under a Service Awards Program for each call year after the establishment of such program in which an Active Member accumulates at least fifty (50) points. Points shall be granted in accordance with a system adopted by the program sponsor, using the guidelines set forth below. In the event of a dispute, the Board of Discipine and Review shall have the final determination on the awarding of points.
- Emergency Incidents - 25 Point Maximum
One-half point shall be awarded for response to and participation in each emergency incident. Such category shall include, but not be limited to, the following types of incidents: Fire calls, Emergency Medical Service calls, and other miscellaneous incidents, as designated by the Fire Chief and/or Officer-in-Charge.
- Drills - 20 Point Maximum
One full point shall be awarded for every two hours of participation in Company drills, including mutual-aid drills, whether or not the Company is the host.
- Training Courses - 25 Point Maximum
If such training course has a pass/fail or grading system, the Member must pass the entire course to receive any points for that course.
- Under 20 Hours Duration
One point shall be awarded for each full hour of instruction, with a maximum of five points per course.
- 20 to 45 Hours Duration
Five points shall be awarded for the first twenty hours of instruction, and one point shall be awarded for each additional hour of instruction, with a maximum of ten points total for each course.
- Over 45 Hours Duration
Fifteen points shall be awarded for each full course.
- Company Participation - 20 Point Maximum
A year of service shall be defined as at least nine months of service within a calendar year.
- Elected Officers
Ten points shall be awarded for each year of service as an elected officer, as defined by the By-Laws of the Company.
- Appointed Officers
Eight points shall be awarded for each year of service as an appointed officer, as defined by the By-Laws of the Company.
- Committees
One point shall be awarded for active participation at each meeting or event of a duly-formed committee, with a maximum of five points per committee served.
- Recreational Activities - 5 Point Maximum
One point shall be awarded for active participation in each Company-sponsored activity. Such category shall include, but not be limited to, the following activities: Waterball, Softball, Trap Leagues, Bowling Leagues/Tournaments, Parades, Memorial Services, and Dedications.
- Maintenance Activities - 5 Point Maximum
One point shall be awarded for active participation in each activity. Such category shall include, but not be limited to, the following activities: Hall Maintenance, Grounds Maintenance, and Vehicle Maintenance. Such category shall not include Radio Check assignments or routine vehicle washing.
- Sleep-In Details - 10 Point Maximum
One point shall be awarded for each duly authorized overnight sleep-in standby, whether at the Company fire hall or elsewhere.
- Military Service - 50 Point Maximum
Five points shall be awarded for each full month of active military service, with a maximum of fifty points per year. Such points may be awarded for a maximum of four years.
- Disability Provision - 60 Point Maximum
In the event that any Active Member is either totally and temporarily disabled, or partially and permanently disabled, as certified by the Workers' Compensation Board or other competent authority approved by the Sponsor of the Service Awards Program, and the disability occurs during the course of service as a volunteer, while actively engaged in providing line-of-duty services, as defined in Subdivision One of Section Five of the Volunteer Firefighters' Benefit Law, the Member shall be awarded five points for each full month of such disability.
