From the By-Laws of the Company, Article IV, Section II, Sub-Section (C)(4):
Truck Lieutenants - shall assist their Captains in the performance of their duties.

It is the responsibility of each Truck Lieutenant to see that these duties are fulfilled throughout the year.

The truck to which you have been appointed shall:

  • be prepared to respond at all times;
  • have three complete sets of turnout gear (Engine 2, Engine 3 and Rescue 7 only);
  • have fire gloves in all coats;
  • have all equipment clean, neat, and stored in its proper place;
  • be checked after each call to ensure that the vehicle is ready for the next call; and
  • be kept clean inside and outside.

In addition, you shall:

  • Assist your Captain in training all Members in the operation and general knowledge of the truck, and to ensure that you are prepared to assume the Captain's position, in the event of the Captain's absence;
  • Keep your truck bay clean, including the glass overhead doors;
  • Immediately report to any Chief officer on any equipment that is missing or damaged; and
  • Immediately report to any Chief officer on any mechanical problem.

If any Truck Lieutenant experiences resistance or other difficulty in obtaining the cooperation and/or support of any Member, it is to be reported to a chief immediately.

Failure to fulfill these duties may result in the removal of a Truck Lieutenant from the position, at the discretion of the Fire Chief.
